Hey there! 👋 I’m Kyle Grealis…

I’m a biostatistician and open source software developer at the University of Miami. Before that, I spent about 20 years as a respiratory therapist and served in the Army. The clinical tools aren’t accidental.

I write R for a living: packages, Shiny apps, and clinical research tools. I develop entirely on Linux, managing my machines with pure declarative NixOS. I’m also learning TypeScript, working toward DevOps competence (the sane kind), and increasingly convinced that agentic workflows are the most interesting thing happening in software right now.

I don’t have a hot take on your favorite package. I just build things and put them here.

My main playground right now is GemiNixOS: a self-hosted, agentic personal assistant built in TypeScript and powered by Gemini models. It runs locally on a NixOS-powered Raspberry Pi 5, serving as a hands-on project for learning declarative system design.
